  4. The animals most like us are the gorillas and the chimpanzees.

  6. The tropical forests of Africa, in which gorillas live, are being

  8. destroyed to make room for farms.  This is endangering the lives of
  9.  
  10. the animals.  Gorillas live together in family groups made up of
  11.  
  12. 1  male, up to 10 females (depending on the species), and their young.
  13.  
  14. They are herbivores and eat many different kinds of plants and
  15.  
  16. fruits.  Every night, the gorillas build a new nest made of vines
  17.  
  18. and branches to sleep on.  Gorillas are quadrapeds, walking on
  19.  
  20. their feet and on the knuckles of their hands (often called
  21.  
  22. knuckle-walking).  Although very fierce looking and extremely
  23.  
  24. strong, the gorilla will only attack if threatened or is protecting
  25.  
  26. its offspring.
